ONLINE TRAUMA THERAPY

Re-member your Fullness

In the words of sonya renee TAYLOR:

"You body is not an apology."

You are a powerful, mystical, beautifully complex, inherently divine miracle of a woman.

But when our bodies are sexualized, racialized, bullied, neglected, violated, shamed, or put on diets, we learn that being our full selves is unsafe, unloveable.

I’m here to help you re-member your fullness. Together, we will wade into your inner world. We will gently and safely reclaim the parts of you that have been silenced, lost and exiled. We will love and celebrate all of you.

While there are many ways to heal, when trauma happens within the context of relationship, the healing does too.

Because when you see yourself through the eyes of safe and unconditional love, you will see that none of this is your fault. You will see the strength within your rage and the medicine within your wound. You will see that despite everything that’s happened, you are a whole and wondrous miracle of life.

I can be that loving presence for you.

  • "I feel lighter, like my traumas aren't running the show anymore - I am."

“Genevieve is a unique therapist. She beautifully blends parts work and EMDR with her artistic, yoga, and meditation background. Through her magic, you begin to peel back layers of conditioning, and develop a deep care and compassion towards the parts of yourself that are hardest to accept.” - GD

  • "Genevieve helps your psyche and body reveal what is ready to be healed."

“She makes you feel safe to revisit your past, to explore challenging emotions and your deepest vulnerabilities, and guides you to rewrite your emotional association with them. We laugh, I feel unconditionally supported, and I immediately experience improvement after our sessions. She is the best therapist I have had.” - KB

  • "Genevieve saved my life."

“I used to believe that everything bad that happened to me was my fault, that I was unlovable. Working with Genevieve has helped me understand my emotions and reactions, to forgive and love myself. I have seen therapists for over twenty years. Genevieve has been the best, by far, and has had the greatest effect on my life.” - TB

  • "Genevieve made me feel human & whole."

"Before working with her I felt anxious and powerless. She helped me see how much control I do have over my life, and build trust with my inner guide. I am now able to make decisions out of love and confidence rather than fear, to set boundaries that allow me to feel free and fully embodied as the person I was always meant to be." - CC

Our Journey

1. Getting to know your internal system

The first stage of our work will be getting to know your different parts or subpersonalities and the roles they play in trying to keep you safe and regulated.

We all have parts focused on protecting us from feeling emotional pain and so before we attempt any trauma work we will take our time in creating safety and building trust with your protective system. I always get consent from you and your parts before proceeding to trauma processing.

2. Trauma resolution / Unburdening your parts

You will discover your innate capacity for curiosity, understanding, and compassion towards the parts of yourself that hold shame, terror, and rage.

Using safe and effective trauma therapies such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR therapy, I will guide and support you in healing from the past, restoring trust in your Self, and reharmonizing your internal system.

3. Integration &
Self-led living

Healing is not a linear process and in the case of complex trauma, I like to think of it more as an upward moving spiral. As you heal from the past, you start to see your present and future with more clarity, and you start to feel more empowered to create the life you want. There may be changes you want to make to your relationships, job, etc. Therapy can support you in integration and navigating these changes.

This is for you if…

  • You are open to discovering your innate wisdom and ability to heal yourself

  • You sense there is trauma from your past that needs healing and you are ready to begin exploring

  • You’ve tried other therapists or therapies and they haven’t helped or didn’t get to the root of the issue

  • You are interested in trying a more somatic, holistic, and integrative approach to therapy

  • You feel disconnected from your purpose and have a yearning to discover your full potential and authentic self expression

  • You yourself are a therapist and need someone who can really hold space for you to do your own work

  • You have the financial resources to be able to meet weekly or biweekly for at least the first couple months

This isn’t for you if…

  • You just want a quick fix for a current issue but aren’t open to exploring the past

  • You are being pressured to get help by someone else but you are not personally invested or ready to do the work (no shame in that!)

  • Your eating disorder symptoms are severe enough to warrant a higher level of care (I can help you determine this during a free phone consult)

  • You don’t live in Florida or North Carolina.

  • You don’t want to do telehealth and are only interested in meeting with someone in-person (I get it, virtual isn’t for everyone)

  • You do not have the financial resources to be able to meet weekly or biweekly for at least the first couple months

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am not in-network with any insurance companies but can provide a Superbill that you can submit for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. Contact your insurance to find out what your benefits are and how much they will reimburse.

  • You can join your session from a computer, tablet or phone. A computer is ideal because of the screen size but is not necessary.

You need a strong internet connection or wireless service to ensure a solid connection throughout the session.

You also need to be in a private space where you feel safe and comfortable. I have had clients join sessions from their (parked) car if they cannot ensure adequate privacy inside their home.

  • It depends. Single event trauma can usually be resolved within several sessions. Complex, developmental trauma can take months to years to fully heal from. That said, even those with complex trauma histories can begin to experience improvements right away.

  • It is not necessary to have a clear, detailed, or complete memory of a traumatic experience in order to process it, in fact, it is normal for trauma memories to be fragmented, dissociated, or stored in the form of body sensations as is the case with preverbal trauma.

  • I strive to be intersectional, inclusive, and humble. I know I have blindspots but I am not fragile. I welcome conversations, concerns, and feedback about your experiences with positionality, power, and privilege within the therapeutic relationship and I will take full responsibility if harm is caused.

I am committed to the life-long work of unlearning and unpacking the effects of systemic oppression, White supremacy, colonization, imperialization, etc. I have immense gratitude for all the diverse clients I have worked with over the years and all the ways they have grown me as a therapist.

  • I have over a decade of experience treating eating disorders at all levels of care, from inpatient to outpatient, and my approach has definitely evolved over the years.

My approach aligns with Health At Every Size® principles and I believe that all bodies are good bodies and worthy of dignity and respect.

I acknowledge that the vast majority of research and information on eating disorders centers the experiences of White women and believe it is important to have an intersectional understanding of eating disorders.

I believe that in order to fully recover from an eating disorder it is necessary to look at personal experiences within the broader cultural context of White supremacist hetero-patriarchy.

In general, I view eating disorder symptoms as adaptive coping strategies employed by protective parts in response to underlying trauma. I have found IFS, in combination with other modalities, to be the most effective treatment model for healing eating disorders.

My Therapeutic Tools

  • Internal Family Systems, developed by Richard Schwartz, is a powerfully transformative, evidence-based model of psychotherapy based on the belief that we all have a wise, compassionate core Self that knows how to heal and is the natural leader of our internal system. Additionally we all have inner parts or subpersonalities that contain valuable qualities. As we go through painful life experiences our parts can get forced into roles oriented around helping us survive and avoid further pain. The goals of IFS therapy are to:

Liberate parts from the roles they’ve been forced into, so they can be who they’re designed to be.

Restore trust in the Self and Self-leadership.

    Reharmonize the inner system.

Become more Self-led in your interactions with the world.

  • Developed by Francine Shapiro, EMDR therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms by encouraging the client to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements) hereleading to a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.

EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the traumatic experience. Rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the traumatic event, EMDR therapy allows the brain to resume its natural healing process.

  • Art therapy is a broad mental health profession that uses art making and the creative process to engage the mind, body, and spirit, and facilitate healing in ways that are distinct from traditional talk therapy.

In addition to a earning a Master’s degree in Art Therapy I have completed training in two specific art-based approaches for trauma processing:

Guided Drawing®: A Sensorimotor Art Therapy Approach to Bilateral Body Mapping developed by Cornelia Elbrecht

Instinctual Trauma Response (ITR)® developed by Louis Tinnin and Linda Gantt

The incorporation of art therapy approaches in individual sessions is based on client needs and desires as well as other practical considerations.

  • The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, is an evidenced-based listening therapy that involves listening to specially filtered music through headphones.

As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to re-tune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration, and resilience.

The SSP has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences, and more. The SSP can increase access to Self-energy and enhance the effectiveness of other therapeutic modalities such as IFS, EMDR, and Sensorimotor Art Therapy.

  • Yoga Nidra is an ancient sleep-based guided meditation practice that uses breath and body awareness techniques to enter a state of profound relaxation and restoration.

Yoga nidra meditation is a way of helping parts to relax so that we can more easily access essential Self – our inner healer and source of unconditional love and compassion.

Seen through a polyvagal lens, Yoga Nidra puts us in a ventral vagal state of safety and connection.

Your healing journey is unique to you. I will personalize all or some of these tools to your needs and preferences. Learn more about my training & background here.
