ABOUT trauma therapist
Genevieive Camp
For me, trauma work is sacred work.
Sacred because it is in a truly safe and loving, soul-to-soul relationship that healing and nervous system repatterning can happen. And that is a something you cannot fake.
Sacred because it is such a privilege to be let into the mysteries of someone’s inner world, to watch them unearth the hidden treasures inside themselves.
Sacred because this isn’t just about healing individually - this is about healing ourselves so that we can help heal our world.
We are living in a time of crisis. My Soul’s purpose is to help women heal from trauma, so that there are more empowered, resilient, regulated women to lead us in regulating our planet.
My journey so far…
I have always loved drawing, creating, and making things with my hands.
But during my degree in fine art I had to face the fact that my art was too personal for me to ever want to sell it. Making art was how I processed my inner world and it was important for my mental health but I knew it wasn’t going to be how I made a living. I felt lost.
During this time the depression I had been struggling with since high school came to a head. My self-worth was at an all time low and I was numb and disconnected from my body.
I started going to a yoga studio that had just opened in my neighborhood.
My yoga teacher helped my body gradually begin to thaw and I started to feel a connection to my core Self again. I will never forget my first experience of yoga nidra meditation; I was guided into an experience of deep inner peace and expansive bliss that I didn’t know was possible. I was hooked.
I found a good therapist and spent the next year focused on healing from my own unprocessed trauma and attachment wounds. Eventually I felt ready to return to the question of what to do with my life.
I combined my love of art and healing with a master’s degree in art therapy, and began working with eating disorder recovery.
I became a yoga teacher and a yoga nidra facilitator and was able to offer these body-focused therapeutic approaches to my clients as well.
Over the years of working in various treatment settings and levels of care I started to realize that unprocessed trauma was at the root of the eating disorder symptoms. If I was going to help my clients fully recover, I knew I would need to target the trauma.
And so, I went on to train in cutting-edge, evidence-based trauma therapies.
I feel so grateful that I get to do work that I truly love, to be able to guide and walk alongside other beautifully complex humans as we navigate this messy world and chart a course towards wholeness and integration.
I can’t imagine a better job than getting cozy with a mug of coffee (and a cat if I’m lucky!) and holding sacred space for other beautiful souls on their healing journeys.
"When we heal ourselves, we heal the world."
- Mark Nepo
I do this work because we are all interconnected.
I do this work for you, I do it for me, I do it for my daughter.
Together we can create a powerful vortex of collective
healing energy for future generations and the planet.
A few fun facts about me…
I am a total introvert and love my alone time.
I am the lucky mom of a very bright, silly, creative, neurodivergent child.
I am a New Year’s baby.
I became a runner at age 39 and set a goal to run a half marathon before I turned 40–and I did it!
I love to travel and have lived in many different places including Massachusetts, California, Washington D.C., New York, Italy, and now Florida.
One of the wildest things I ever did was adopt a feral street puppy while living in a camper van in post-Katrina New Orleans.
I have two cats named Magnolia and Bridgette who will likely pop into your session at some point.
After graduating college I worked for a year as an interior/exterior house painter. I still find painting walls to be uniquely satisfying.
For several years I ran a successful side business making and selling hand-woven beaded jewelry. I took an indefinite break when it started negatively affecting my physical health (who knew you could get a rotator cuff injury from beading!)
My clients and I laugh ALOT during our trauma therapy sessions. As Bell Hooks writes, “we cannot have a meaningful revolution without humor”.
